Priority Right (Right of Priority)

Natural or legal persons who are nationals of one of the countries party to the Paris Convention of 1883 (to which Türkiye has been a party since 1925 and which currently has 166 member countries), or who, although not nationals of one of these countries, are domiciled or have an active commercial establishment in one of them, enjoy a priority right for filing a patent or utility model application in Türkiye for twelve months from the date of the application they filed with the competent authorities of any of these countries for the grant of a patent or utility model certificate. Priority rights not used within this twelve-month period lapse. The list of Paris Convention member countries is available on our website. If they wish, applicants may also file patent or utility model applications in Paris Convention member countries within the 12 months following an application duly filed with the Office, by claiming the priority rights arising from that application.
