Trademark Applications Under the Madrid Protocol
Several systems are available for registering a trademark abroad. The most widely used is filing under the Madrid Protocol. More than 80 countries are party to the Madrid Protocol. Türkiye is also a party, so trademark applications covering member countries can be filed through the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). To file under the Madrid Protocol, the applicant's trademark must already be registered or applied for in Türkiye. The Madrid System is advantageous in terms of both procedure and cost. Direct National Trademark Applications
Another way to register a trademark abroad is to file a direct national application. This route is generally preferred for registering trademarks in countries that are not members of the Madrid Protocol. Direct national applications can also be filed in Madrid Protocol member countries. They are filed through a trademark attorney who is our partner in the country concerned. For country-specific procedures and costs, please call our international trademark consultants.
European Union Community Trademark Applications
The Community Trademark is a trademark registration system that is valid throughout the European Union. With a single application, registration can be requested in all 27 member states. A Community Trademark application results in a single registration certificate valid in all 27 countries.
