Trademark registration in Armenia

Armenia is a member of the Madrid Protocol. Trademark applications can be filed through the Madrid Protocol or by engaging an attorney firm in Armenia. For a trademark application, a representation of the mark and a list of goods prepared according to the international Nice Classification, together with a simply signed power of attorney, are sufficient. Several classes can be selected in the same application. A priority document, if any, must be sent within 2 months of the filing date. The whole process takes 12–14 months. Formal examination takes the first 2 months, and the examinations, including any grounds for refusal, take 8–9 months. After registration, payment of the registration fee and issuance of the certificate may take 3–4 months. Trademarks that have not been used for 5 years can be cancelled if third parties bring an action. Trademarks are renewed for 10-year periods.
