Bahrain is a party to the Madrid Protocol. The international Nice Classification of goods and services is used. After filing, the mark remains published for 60 days, during which oppositions can be filed. A trademark can be registered within 10 months. A trademark is registered for 10 years and must be renewed every 10 years. There is a 3-month period for renewal; if the trademark is not renewed within this period, it is cancelled. After cancellation, no one is permitted to register the mark for 3 years. A trademark application requires a power of attorney notarized and legalized by the consulate. A document evidencing the applicant company's entry in the Commercial Register is required. If the mark contains a device, 8 copies of it are required. If the applicant's country is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, the power of attorney does not need to be legalized by the Bahraini consulate or any Arab consulate; it is sufficient to send the apostilled documents to the Bahrain Industrial Property and Patent Office.
