Patent
Bahrain is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase with PCT applications is 30 months. If a priority document is used, it must be submitted to the Bahrain Industrial Property and Patent Office within 6 months of the filing date. A patent is valid for 20 years. A patent application requires a power of attorney notarized and legalized by the consulate. A document evidencing the applicant company's entry in the Commercial Register is required. The specification documents in English and their Arabic translation are required. If the applicant's country is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, the power of attorney does not need to be legalized by the Bahraini consulate or any Arab consulate; it is sufficient to send the apostilled documents to the Bahrain Industrial Property and Patent Office. Annuities become payable once the registration certificate has been issued to the applicant.
Utility model
Utility model protection is available. The terms and requirements are the same as for patent applications.
