Turkmenistan is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 30 months. If an examination report has been issued, the application can also be filed within the 31st month. A simply signed power of attorney is sufficient; however, a power of attorney bearing the company stamp must be notarized. The specification documents must be submitted in Tajik or Russian. If priority is claimed, the priority document must be submitted within 3 months of the filing date. A request for examination must be filed within 3 years of the filing date; otherwise, the application is cancelled. Patent protection lasts 20 years in total.
