India is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 31 months. A simply signed power of attorney must be submitted. If priority is claimed, a certified English translation of the priority document must be submitted. A declaration regarding the relationship between the applicant and the inventor must be submitted. Patent protection lasts 20 years in total. After filing, the required checks are completed and the application is published within 18 months. Early publication can be requested. A request for examination must be filed within 48 months of the filing date.
