Patent
Sri Lanka is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 30 months. Information on the patent rights between the applicant and the inventor must be provided. If the applicant is not resident in Sri Lanka, a local attorney resident in Sri Lanka must be appointed. If the patent is already registered in another country, the application is published directly, and if no opposition is filed, a grant decision is issued directly. The term of patent protection is 20 years.
