Patent
Singapore is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 30 months. Applications can be filed through a local attorney resident in Singapore, who must be appointed for this purpose. A power of attorney is not required for a patent application. The claims may be omitted at filing but must be submitted within 12 months. An opposition may be filed until the search and examination are concluded. The term of patent protection is 20 years. The fees for the first 4 years are paid in a lump sum, and from the 5th year onward they must be paid annually.
Utility Model
The requirements are the same as for patents. The term of utility model protection is 10 years.
