Patent
Syria is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 31 months. A power of attorney notarized and legalized by the consulate is required. If the applicant and the inventor are not the same, a document on the assignment of rights between them must be submitted. The full specification must be in English or French. An Arabic translation must also be submitted. If priority is claimed, the priority document must be submitted within 3 months of the filing date. The term of patent protection is 20 years. If the application was filed before 2012, the term of protection is 15 years.
Utility Model
The requirements are the same as for patents. The term of utility model protection is 10 years.
