Trademark registration in Macao

Macau is not a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through a local attorney in the country. If a logo is used in addition to the word mark and protection is sought for both, filing separate applications is recommended. A simply signed power of attorney is required. A list of the classes in which protection is sought is required. The applicant's details must be provided. Fifteen prints of a specimen of the trademark must be submitted. If it is a word mark only, 1 copy must be submitted. A multi-class system is used, and the international Nice Classification applies. The term of protection for a trademark is 10 years. The trademark can be maintained indefinitely by renewal every 10 years. Renewal is required every 10 years.
