Trademark registration in Jordan

Jordan is not a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through a local attorney in the country. A power of attorney notarized and legalized by the consulate is required. A specimen of the mark and a list of the claimed goods and services in Japanese must be submitted. If the trademark has a meaning, that meaning must be explained. A single-class system is used, so a separate application must be filed for each class. The international Nice Classification applies. If priority is claimed, the priority document must be submitted within 3 months of the filing date. The term of protection is 10 years. The trademark can be used indefinitely by renewing it every 10 years. After passing formal examination, the trademark is published in the official bulletin for 3 months. Third parties may file oppositions during this period. There is a 5-year use requirement. If the trademark is not used for 5 years, third parties may bring an action for its cancellation. The 5-year period starts from the registration date or from the date the trademark was last used. Renewal must be carried out every 10 years.
