Oman is a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through the Madrid Protocol or directly through a local attorney in the country. A signed and apostilled power of attorney is required. The trade registry gazette must be provided in English or Arabic. 15 specimens of the mark and a list of the goods and services for which it will be used must be provided. A single-class system is used, meaning a separate application must be filed for each class. The international Nice Classification applies. The term of protection is 10 years. The trademark can be used indefinitely by renewing it every 10 years. After passing examination, the trademark is published in the official bulletin for 90 days. Oppositions can be filed during this period. There is a 5-year use requirement. Third parties may bring a cancellation action against trademarks that have not been used within 5 years of the date of last use. Renewal must be carried out every 10 years.
