Sweden is a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through the Madrid Protocol or directly through a local attorney. A simply signed power of attorney is sufficient. For legal entities, a company stamp is sufficient. A print of the trademark and the classes of the selected goods and services are required. A representation of the selected trademark measuring 8 x 8 cm is required. A multi-class system is used, meaning that several classes can be covered by the same application, and the Nice Classification applies. The term of protection for a trademark is 10 years. By renewing it every 10 years, the trademark can be used indefinitely. An opposition can be filed within 2 months after the application is published. If the trademark is not used within 5 years, third parties may file an action for its cancellation. Renewal is required every 10 years.
