Trademark Registration in Gabon

Gabon is not a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through a local attorney. A simply signed power of attorney must be submitted. A representation of the trademark measuring at most 9 x 9 cm must be submitted. A multi-class system is used. The term of protection for a trademark is 10 years. A trademark can be used indefinitely provided that it is renewed every 10 years. After examination, the trademark is published in the official bulletin for 6 months, during which third parties may file an opposition. The trademark must be used within 5 years of the registration date or the date of last use. Use is not limited to Gabon: use in any OAPI member state is sufficient. Renewal is required every 10 years.
