Trademark registration in Morocco

Morocco is a member of the Madrid Protocol. Applications can be filed through the Madrid Protocol or directly through a local attorney. A simply signed power of attorney must be provided, and a separate power of attorney is required for each application. For legal entities, the company stamp must be provided. The list of classes in which the mark will be used must be provided in French or Arabic. If priority is claimed, the priority document must be provided in French and notarized. A multi-class system is used, based on the international Nice Classification. The term of protection is 10 years. The trademark can be used indefinitely by renewing it every 10 years. After examination, the mark is published in the official bulletin for two months, during which third parties may file oppositions. There is a 5-year obligation to use the mark. If the mark is not used for 5 years, third parties may bring an action for its cancellation. Renewal is required every 10 years.
