Patent
Tanzania is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 31 months. A simply signed power of attorney must be submitted. The full specification must be submitted in English. The term of patent protection is 10 years. After 10 years, it can be extended twice for 5 years each, providing 20 years of protection in total.
Utility Model
The requirements are the same as for patents. The term of utility model protection is 10 years for Zanzibar and 7 years for Tanganyika.
