Patent
The Slovak Republic is a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The deadline for entering the national phase via the PCT is 31 months. A simply signed power of attorney is required. The specification documents must be in Slovak. If priority is claimed, the priority document must be notarized. Once the patent application is published, third parties and institutions may file oppositions. Patent protection lasts 20 years.
Utility model
The requirements are the same as for patents. Utility model protection lasts 4 years. After 4 years, this term can be extended twice by 3 years each. In total, utility model protection lasts 10 years.
